From a design and build skill point, I am happy with my progress over the year:
- I was able to work on very small/thin stock projects with much more success.
- I see a little more design "excitement" and pushing things beyond existing plans or simple boxy shapes.
- I also was able to experiment more with grain and color. I'm looking forward to even more progress in 2016.
As a count, I finished 5 box projects, 5 other small projects, and 3 larger furniture pieces.
A treasure box for Lexie's birthday. Cherry and walnut. Breadboard ends, cut nails - made like a mini 6-board chest.Cherry chicken perch for the bids we boarded in the winter - definitely nicer and better built than needed, but fun
A shaker side table for Maribeth and Gary. Full traditional construction.
Cedar serving tray with splayed sides and shaped edges. Finally a tray wide enough for our dishes to bring outside for summer dinners.
Another box - bookmatched top from an amazing piece of poplar from a neighbor's attic. A first experiment with the walnut inlayed corners.
A shaker style bed for Lexie - plus a few curves. Dealing with pieces this big was a challenge.
A simple small box in cherry. I love the grain on this, including the cross-grain top
The end-product of a small box class with Matt Kenney
Salt box for Elizabeth, using lessons from the class. It's tinier than anything I've done (about 2" high)
Another go at the serving tray, this time in red oak. I was able to refine the shape and edge treatment - a gift to my retiring assistant Susan
Another cabinet for my parent's camper. Build went a little easier than doing the first two years ago
